The Problem - The patient has MS and wanted a compact standing frame to allow her to stand regularlyin order to improve circulation and general conditioning, and to fight spasticity. She and her assistant did not have the strength to manually hoist her from her wheelchair.

TheSolution - A compact portable stander frame was designed and fabricated forh allway use, including an electric winch package. The stander is also used to raise and lower her legs while sitting in the wheelchair. A hip belt/sling is worn by the patient and conected to ropes pulled by the winch to raise her to the standing position. The kneepads are designed to provide lateral and posterior restraint while being raised and while in the standing postion. Two sets of steadying handles help her maintain balance while being raised and when standing. The unit is portable and stores in a small closet when not in use. Total cost of materials - approximately Cdn$300.
