The Snow Wheelchair

THE PROBLEM:  to adapt an electric wheelchair to go through deep snow, climb hills, etc.

THE SOLUTION:  photo 1:  I cut out the center of a snowblower tire and then welded in a bolt pattern to fit the wheelchair hub. You can get turf tires, knobbies, to fit your needs.

photo 2:   a) The standard anti-tip wheel assembly kept breaking so I got some idler wheels for a snowmobile suspension  ( slideradaption kit, Royal Distributing )   b) you have to trim the supplied mounting shaft down for clearance.

photo 4: My joystick arm kept breaking off from my arm weight, turning, leaning, etc., so I used the old arm rail post    a) with a "j" clip hooked on the bottom support bar    b) with snap ties around top to hold it in a grove that fits the pipe dia.  c) the snap ties will break if you catch or hook somthing, saving a broken joystick.

photo 5: Since the snow tires are much larger in diameter, I had to remount the front spindles lower. Just drill new holes and bolt back on. Also, to save forks from their mounting hole elongating, just drill out the hole to fit in a brass bushing ( cheaper than replacing the whole fork ).
