THE PROBLEM: I was continually getting red spots which could have easily turned into pressure sores. I could not get my sitiing tolerance over 8 hours per day and I had to spend most evenings and weekends in bed.
THE SOLUTION: Design cushion which relieved pressure from "boney" areas. We took a 4 inch thick piece of foam and cut a sideways groove 1 1/2 inches wide exactly where my sitting pressure points are. To maintain the integrity of the foam the groove starts 2 inches in from each side. We also cut a "V" shaped groove where my tail bone is. These two grooves move my sitting pressure to the fattier parts of my legs and cheeks of my butt. It elieviates all direct pressure on my boney areas. We then put a "J Active" pad on the front portion of the cushion and put 2 supplemental bags on the rear section. These bags were put in cloth bags so that they could be shaped to meet the contours of the cushion and velcroed into position. This cushion now allows me to sit 12 hours at a time and with a 1/2 hourrest I can get back up and not have to worry about red spots.
