THE PROBLEM: This unit was designed for a homemaker who had only partial use of her left hand and had additional balance problems. Her disability made it unsafe for her to transport hot items from oven to counter, or from counter to table.
THE SOLUTION: This oven lift is basically a new twist on a familiar item, the hospital overbed table. The table section has been relocated to allow for continuous elevations from 19 inches->37 inches from the floor. The original top was removed and a new top fitted to the original brackets, after they were cut and rewelded to their new location. A rechargeable drill, fitted to the shortened crank shaft, provides convenient power. The new ceramic tile surface on the table, and its wooden ledge on two sides, allow for the safe positioning and transport of hot items taken from the stove. Additionally, the easy vertical adjustment of the table, its sturdy steel post construction, and its smooth castor operation make it useful for clients with a variety of disabilities. Wheelchair bound clients appreciate its potential for positioning items at exactly the right height for craft work or food preparation. A change of an inch or two in height can make the difference between fatigue and enjoyment when these activities stretch beyond a few moments.
