THE PROBLEM: The client has Multiple Sclerosis and suffers from severe footdrop, so is unable to lift her feet up to conventional footrests without assistance. Because of this she is unable to go outside on her own.
THE SOLUTION: A pair of powered footrests were designed and fabricated using automobile power window motors and switches. The footrests detach when not needed (i.e. when indoors) and can be mounted on the wheelchair(for outings) while seated in the wheelchair. Both footrests lower to ground level to allow the client to slide their feet on or off. Pushing the buttons raises each to over 3 inches above ground level to clear sidewalk bumps, curbs, ramps, etc.
