The Door and Gate Control

THE Problem-- Closing a door behind you in tight quarters after you've rolled through it is awkward, time-consuming, and physically difficult.Opening doors toward you is difficult because you have to reach out as far as your footrests and grasp the knob with one hand while backing up with the other hand. There is a danger of pitching the chair forward and/or sliding out of the chair. Both of these situations are exacerbated by obstacles and narrow hallways.

The Solution--Snaking a weighted rope through a swivel pulley and fastening it to the top of a door on the latch side creates a door closer. Using unweighted ropes on one side of a door can be used to either open it toward you or close it behind you. A gate on the sidewalk to the house entry ramp can be mounted with self-closing kitchen hinges to permit no-hands access. A rope hung near the ceiling with a pull-stick can open a self-closing door toward you until you can get your footplate to block the door open before exiting.
