THE PROBLEM: My wife had problems transferring from her Lieber walker to her bed. She would back the walker up to the bed but then had to sort of fall onto the bed with some assistance. This was causing back injury and lots of fear.
THE SOLUTION: The idea for the device came from a statement she made "that she had no trouble getting into her powerchair without assistance. During this transfer she was able to support herself on the right chair armrest and lower herself into the chair without discomfort. I then constructed the device from plywood[under the mattress and up the side] and a piece of 3/4" x 3" board that sits on the mattress top. I then drilled holes into the board to which I attached the spare armrest. It allows unassisted transfer into the bed without the risk of injury.
