| THE PROBLEM: We wanted to get people with moderate weakness
in the legs, who do not walk without the aid of crutches or a walker, to
downhill ski..
|
| THE SOLUTION: The hands were required to assist the skier's legs in supporting the body and also in executing turns. This was accompished by fastening a bar across the front and back of the skis in a manner that held them in a "snowplow" position but still allowed them to edge. At both ends of the front bar is a hole through which passes the outriggers ( small skis on the end of standard crutches ).Contact by e-mail for further details. For skiers requiring even more support see "The Skeasy". Several versions and sizes have been in use sucessfully with the Kitchener Track III Ski Club for the past three seasons. This unit was named the "Ashmobile " after the first student skier to use one. Her name is "Ashley" |
