THE PROBLEM: The client had acquired a very inquisitive kitten, that took great delight in clawing all the tissues out of her tissue box. Relocating the tissue box to where the kitten could not go was not an option as the kitten could get to far more places in the apartment than the client could. So the client wanted something to enclose the tissues such that she could get to them but the kitten could not. The enclosure should also be such that it would be easy to replace the box of tissue.
THE SOLUTION: The solution was a wood box with the front missing so that a tissue box could be slid into it. The top of the box has an opening larger than the opening in the tissue box so that tissues can be removed. Above the top of the box is a hinged lid that is restrained from opening to vertical by a thin string. This hinged lid extends over the front of the box so that the client can raise the hinged lid with the back of her hand and reach in to get a tissue. The lid closes as she withdraws her hand. We hope that the kitten does not eventually figure out how to get at the tissues. For now, the kitten just plays with the knot on the end of the restraint string while standing on top of the hinged lid.
